Dr. Christine Helfrich is an assistant professor in the department of Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation Counseling at Boston University. She received occupational therapy degrees from Cleveland State University and The University of Illinois and a doctoral degree in Public Health from UIC. She is a fellow of the American Occupational Therapy Association. Her clinical career began in mental health where she has practiced and consulted in a wide range of settings. Her research has produced seminal work in the areas of domestic violence and homelessness that has shaped the role of occupational therapy with these populations. Her funding history includes 3 federally funded projects, and a number of other foundation and intramural grants. She has over 30 peer reviewed journal articles and has given over 75 national and international presentations. She is the principle investigator on a field initiated project funded by the National Institute for Disability and Rehabilitation Research investigating the efficacy of a life skills intervention designed to increase residential stability among adults with psychiatric disabilities who are homeless. |
